Some options for building Mobile Web sites

I realized that in the previous post (see The Key Challenge for Mobile Web Apps) I gave the impression that is was really difficult to build mobile sites.

It isn’t.

Here are some online tools (that are really easy to use) to get you started on building mobile sites:

  1. Jimdo.com– provides several templates to help you build your site on the web and also creates a mobile optimized version (for smartphones)
  2. If you don’t mind the blog format – WordPressdoes a pretty good job of reformatting the content for smartphones too.
  3. Google Sites has templates to help you easily create basic mobile friendly pages.

Best of all – these options do the hosting for you!

Oh and if you’re concerned that these support mainly Smartphones then take heart: studies have shown that the average Smartphone user is 10 times more likely to browse the mobile web than a normal phone user (we call them feature phone users). The average iPhone user is 30 times more likely to browse the mobile web than one with a normal phone.
